Justin Timberlake, whiny douche: ‘My music career hangs over me like a cloud’

Justin Timberlake is currently in Cannes to promote The Coen Brothers’ new movie, Inside Llewyn Davis. As Kaiser offhandedly suggested, JT probably thinks that he’s the star of the film, which is an interesting (and likely accurate) proposition because Pajiba’s Cannes review of the film doesn’t mention Justin Timberlake at all. Ouch.

Make no mistake though, Justin really wants to be an actor even though he’s made his multi-millions from music — record sales and (mostly) touring. Yet after JT made the douche move of retiring his most celebrated single, “Sexy Back,” in 2008, I’ve come to believe that he despises being a musician. When he started to try and use his “SNL” success to build a real acting career, I was interested to see if Hollywood would bite. And the bite did come, but it hasn’t stuck, much to Justin’s dismay. The guy really thought that The Social Network was his key to Oscar city. Now he’s somehow scored a role in a freaking Coen Brothers’ movie, and instead of really publicizing the movie, he’s whining about his tortured, unwitting life as a singer. Okay, so I’m exaggerating just a bit, but that’s how I’m seeing it. Let’s see if you agree:

Llewyn Davis is the first movie Timberlake has been in that’s featured him as a singer.

We talked about his career at the intimate gathering following the Llewyn black tie premiere. Timberlake is extremely thoughtful and very articulate on this subject. He said: “You know my music career hangs over me like a cloud.” Interesting. Justin worries that he still isn’t taken seriously as an actor because of the music. He’s really devoted to the acting career. In fact, I’d say in a way that his whole “20/20 Experience” album and tour is an acting exercise. Justin is playing a part- of a Rat Pack like suave singer with a back up band. And that’s just fine since the album is a monster hit and the tour should be, too.

He told me of the whole “Suit and Tie” success: “It’s a tribute” to soul music of the 70s with a Memphis feel. And while he’s mastered the R&B falsetto, it’s nice to hear him sing straightforwardly in “Llewyn Davis.” He, Oscar Isaac and Adam Driver perform a hilarious but seriously meant novelty song called “Please Mr. Kennedy” in the movie that should become a cult classic.

Coming up next for Justin, a movie role that could really break through for him: the late record exec Neil Bogart, whose Casablanca Records produced Donna Summer and KISS. Bogart was a mastermind who lived large in the 70s. Timberlake told me they’re about to choose a director, and he’s doing his research. This will entail a meeting with Gene Simmons–which, I hope, someone will film. That’s a movie in itself.

[From Showbiz 411]

Do you see what I’m seeing? Poor little Justin is acting like he’s that character from the Li’l Abner comic strip — the one who constantly walks around with a cloud over his head. Now the Huffington Post is calling JT’s admission “a particularly introspective moment,” but I disagree. I think that Justin really sees himself as an unfortunate soul who must resort to writing substandard pop songs to finance his true existence of an artist who only wants to act. It’s JT against the world, and the world just won’t let him be great.

Jessica Biel Joins Justin Timberlake at Cannes

Mixing business with pleasure, Justin Timberlake took Jessica Biel along to the Canal + TV event at the Cannes Film Festival on Monday (May 20).

The "Sexyback" singer wore a white dress shirt, gray blazer, and black pants while his lovely wife donned a black, white, and orange, half-sleeve dress.

On Sunday, JT''s movie "Inside Llewyn Davis," in which he plays a folk musician alongside Carey Mulligan, premiered at the festival.

During interviews, the 31-year-old pop star/actor shared what he does to relieve stress, saying, "I use everything as therapy. I play golf, write songs, punch pillows. We’ve all done it. You get so mad that you punch a wall and then you break your hand or something. It’s like the dumbest thing we do as humans."

JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE He Admits To Punching Pillows To Relieve Stress

As I’m sure many of us know out there, everyday stress sometimes gets the best of us and you just gotta do what you have to do to get rid of it. And when it comes to dealing with his stress, Justin Timberlake says he likes to take it out on his pillows!

Speaking to Star magazine Justin said: “I use everything as therapy. I play golf, write songs, punch pillows. We’ve all done it. You get so mad that you punch a wall and then you break your hand or something.”

“It’s like the dumbest thing we do as humans.”

The Mirrors hitmaker also spoke about his love for playing complex characters on the big-screen as part of his acting career.

He said: “We don’t want to go to the movie theatre to watch people be perfect. We think we’re going to escape, but what we really start doing, as soon as the first frame of the movie starts rolling, is we look to relate.”

Jessica Biel in Marchesa for ‘Llewyn’ Cannes premiere: swan-fug or lovely?

Here are the photos from last night’s Cannes premiere of Inside Llewyn Davis, the Coen Brothers’ new film about folk music (sort of). I had forgotten that this film was getting a Cannes premiere, and I bet it was extremely well-received – Cannes loves the Coens. The film stars Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, John Goodman, Garrett Hedlund and the star is Oscar Isaac (as Llewyn Davis). So, obviously, the REAL star is Justin Timberlake. And by that I mean that the real star of the red carpet is JT’s wife Jessica Biel. This is what Biel wore to her first Cannes Film Festival red carpet as Justin’s wife. She wore a terrible Marchesa dress that looks like a swan went through a car wash. I almost feel sympathy for Jessica because of this terrible dress. But then I remember… she had her choice of frocks. She actually wanted to wear this. WHY?! Something nice: I’m glad that we’re no longer staring at those terrible bangs.

Here’s Carey Mulligan in Vionnet (that’s Oscar Isaac beside her). I don’t hate this, and I don’t love it either. It’s like a deconstructed sack dress, right? Totally shapeless. And weird.

Justin Timberlake with Carey… he didn’t walk the carpet with his wife. Because OMG, are we still doing this?! The jig is up. We know you’re married. We saw your stupid People Mag cover for your wedding. Just walk the carpet together. I will give Justin credit for one thing though – his tuxedo is beautiful. He’s one of the most best-dressed men at Cannes.

Kirsten Dunst was there to support her man too. Garrett Hedlund and Kiki didn’t walk the carpet together either, but I’m not as mad at them because they actually do seem to keep their relationship undercover for the most part. Kiki wore Michael van der Ham Fall 2013 and it’s very fug and old-ladyish.

Bonus Christoph Waltz! He’s on the jury this year, that’s why he’s there. I like his frames!

Justin Timberlake: Chilling Out in Cannes

Enjoying some downtime in the South of France, Justin Timberlake turned up at the 66th Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, France this afternoon (May 15).

The “Suit & Tie” singer made his way around the Croisette sporting a loosened necktie with a khaki jacket and black sunglasses.

Justin is at the big festival to drum up interest in his forthcoming film “Spinning Gold,” about the founder of Casablanca Records who helped bring disco into vogue.

And it won’t be long before Timberlake teams up with Jay-Z for the much-anticipated Legends of Summer Tour, coming soon to a city near you!

2014, 2015 Grammy Awards Scheduled

Already planning for the next couple of awards seasons, CBS and the Recording Academy scheduled the 2014 and 2015 Grammys.

Both taking place at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, the 56th annual event will happen on Sunday, January 26th, at 8:00pm ET on CBS, with eligibility going from Oct. 1, 2012 to Sept. 30, 2013.

The following year, the 57th Grammys will be moved up to February 8th, 2015. Billed as "music''s biggest night," the 2013 show grabbed 28.4 million viewers.

With the return of Justin Timberlake and jam-packed with performances by the nominated stars, the show was the second-largest audience for the Grammys since 1993.
